Great Southern Hotel, Sydney
Features of the structural design included:
The hotel was a 100 year old heritage listed building without any documentation being available.
A complete understanding of the method of construction and load paths was essential prior to commencing the design of the modifications and additions to ensure the integrity of the building.
By virtue of the heritage listing, codified processes to complete the works were followed.
GWE’s engineers were very responsive to the discovery of previously unknown conditions making every effort to reduce costs.
Engineering solutions needed to take into account difficult ground conditions in the design of footing systems, very limited access, proximity of adjoining structures and constructability.
