Artarmon Waste Transfer Station
At the time of opening the Artarmon Transfer Station was the largest and most modern facility of its kind in NSW. GWE’s involvement took several roles, initially as Principal Consultants for the design and finally as Construction Manager.
The design and construction presented several challenges with stabilisation of the embankments a major concern. With embankments up to 23 metres high on two boundaries stabilisation required a combination of rock anchors, rock dowels, shotcreting and soldier piling.
The push pit built to accept the waste required extremely high tolerances to accept the hydraulically operated equipment designed to transfer the waste to packers at the lower level. These, in turn, transferred the waste into long haul vehicles.
