Aboriginal Landscaping (Parramatta City Council)
Grand Avenue in Camelia is the main access road into a densely populated industrial estate.
Parramatta City Council, through the Camelia Enhancement Project Master Plan, developed a concept to reform the dusty and unattractive median strip by transforming it into a large landform sculpture. GW Engineers was engaged to manage the project that involved an Aboriginal artist, a landscape architect and a landscape construction team. The contoured land incorporates Aboriginal artwork, traffic calming devices, truck parking bays and other works to improve the aesethetics of Grand Avenue. The design incorporates native grasses, shrubs and trees combined with various colours and textures of gravels, pebbles and terracotta chips. Aboriginal feature themes are individually lit to provide a nightscape.
